Remodeling an occupied fire station is a different problem than building one from scratch. The program already exists, the crews are still working, and the building has its own logic — some worth keeping, some not. This project asked Infusion Architects to work within that reality and deliver a facility that functions like a new one.
The 12,733 square foot renovation reorganized Station No. 62 around how firefighters actually live and work during a shift. Ten bunk rooms, a day room, kitchen and dining, and a dedicated fitness space were integrated into the existing floor plate, supported by four back-in apparatus bays and a training tower that extends the station’s operational capabilities. Every component of the daily routine — rest, meals, training, response — has a place that was designed for it.
The exterior received an updated material treatment with new ACM accent panels, extending the interior investment to the building’s presence on the street.
